Well folks, just a quick photo update on the hybrid Oncidium Highlands that I have mounted. It has almost finished opening all its buds, and is putting on quite a show here in the dead of winter. Its nice to have such bright colors in the house when it is 15 degrees and snowing outside.

Hey Derek, Pretty amazing! 15F degrees and snowing and yet an Orchid is blooming--especially an Oncidium! I know one strategy to survive the Winter is none other than with Orchids. At any rate, I am still trying to identify this orchid. In one sense, it looks like it has the pure Oncidium "primary" parentage because the color of the flower is more typical Oncidium--yellow and reds to browns. Nevertheless, the shape of the flower seems to be like an Odontoglossum, with the petal and sepals forming a nicely spaced, wide-spreading star-like shape. Yet, if this plant is an Odontocidium, which would be my best guess, it looks like the brown color would be more intense? At any rate will continue to look for it. TDW
Tim, I would say the guy could be either one.... Those colors on it could easily be a straight Oncidium, or could just as easily be an Odontocidium. I wish the tag for this guy still existed/wish I still had it. I can't remember the name or any details at all, as it was one of my first orchids a couple of years ago. It was already fairly large when I mounted it.
